Optimistic Science Fiction

Back in the early 1970s a kid asked me why I liked science fiction.
"Well, because it's so optimistic." was my answer.

"No it's not!" was the reply, and I looked around and realized he was right. All the SF that was coming out at the time was end of the world stuff about pollution, giant monsters, nuclear war and the coming ice age. It was a really dreary time until we got the 1977 Star Wars.

Now, Star Wars is dark and gloomy, even Star Trek has gone dark and gloomy.

A couple days ago, I did a google search for "Optimistic Science Fiction" and the newest link was to stuff 2 years old, and it was talking about books that were decades old.

Are Freefall and 21st Century Fox, the last ones standing?
